Beijing Daxing International Airport


Situated in Daxing District of Beijing and parts of Guangyang District of Langfang, Heibei, Beijing Daxing International Airport is 46km away from Tian’anmen square, 67km away from the Capital Airport, 85km away from Tianjin Binhai Airport, 26km away from the city center of Langfang, and 86km away from the city center of Baoding. The new airport is built in the joint area of Beijing, Tianjin and Xiong’an New Area. Besides highways, the underground transportation system of the new airport will provide great convenience for tourists to reach Beijing, Tianjin and Heibei. There are 5 railways throughout the new airport, which are Beijing-Bazhou intercity railway, airport express, R4/S6, reserved railway, and Langfang-Zhuozhou intercity railway.

The terminal of Daxing International Airport is shaped in a Phoenix with wings opening. Different from the shape of T3, it is shaped in  five concourses connected to the main hall, Daxing aims to reduce walking for passengers, long a complaint against many new mega-hubs. The new airport terminals are build on the latex pads, providing the whole architecture the best anti-vibration system, making the new Daxing airport the largest anti-vibration construction in the world. Daxing airport adopts the design of double departure and double arrival, which is different from the traditional one. There are all together 4 levels of the new terminal. Two are used for departure and two for arrival, making the planed terminal become a 3D one. Special care has been taken by NACO to incorporate sustainable elements into the master plan of the airport. The runways and taxiways have been planned and designed to reduce travelling distances between them. This in turn will reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The design reduced the height of the terminal from 80 meters to 60 meters with more appropriate function division, making the interior lighting and ventilating more convenient. The new airport adopts ecological technology like geothermal energy resources and environmental friendly building materials, and modern information technology.

Daxing International Airport adopts double-leveled departure overpass, forming two carriage ways. In the future, the airport is supposed to handle the passenger of T1, T2 and T3. One carriage way may fails to handle the passenger capacity. L1 is the international arrival. L2 is the domestic arrival. L3 is domestic self service and the fast pass, L4 is the international departure and domestic luggage register. The underground transportation system enables passengers to reach the terminal building easily, bringing passengers great convenience. The north side of the new airport is T1 which can accommodate 45 million passengers, and 12,600 departures and arrivals at peak hours, equals to the total capacity of T3. In the future, a satellite terminal will be built on the south side, capable to handle the passenger capacity of 72 millions, and 19,500 departures and arrivals at peak hours. For the long-term plan, there will be a new terminal on the south end of the terminal area, aiming to handle 100 million passengers a year. There are 82 departure gates. It only takes no longer than 8 minutes for passengers to reach any departure gates from the center of the terminal by walking. City metros and high-speed rails are aside the new airport . In the middle, there are three rails for airport express and metro. The length of the five rails is 270 meters. Passengers can take elevators to reach the new airport. The transfer is also convenient. Passengers can take high-speed rail from Fengtai railway station, Xiong’an, Shijiazhuang or Taiyuan to reach the new airport.
Daxing International airport covers an area of 1.4 million square meters with terminal buildings, service buildings and parking lots. There are 5 floors and the railway transportation is on the second floor of the terminal building. The first floor is the transfer square. Passengers can transfer for high-speed rail, metro, and intercity metro at F1. The top of the terminal is a vault with the diameter of 80 meters. Eight C-shaped pillars support the roof. On the pillars there are windows for lighting. The terminal is able to resist 12-levled typhoon.

There are 82 near flight slots in Daxing International Airport. The airport pavements are E1 (3400*60), N1(3800*60), W1(3800*60), W2(3800*45), and W3(3800*45).  The distance between W1 and E1 is 2350 meters, which leaves sufficient space for the expansion in the future.
Beijing metro new airport line, also called as NO.2 airport line, is 41km with 5 stationsLize business area station, Caoqiao Station, Guanyinsi Station, Daxing Airport Station and South terminal station. The construction was commenced in 2016 and will be operated in 2019 when Daxing Airport starts its operation. Line 20 (Line R4) is a planning expressway connecting the south part and the north part of the airport. At the end of the two part is the T3 of capital airport and north terminal building of Daxing Airport. In the future, this metro line will realize the connection of the two airports.
The east base hanger of Beijing Daxing International Airport was capped on September 29th 2018. It is estimated to finish its construction on June 30th 2019. On April 10th 2019, Daxing International Airport finished its decoration. At 9:29 May 13th,2019, the first test flight arrived at Daxing international Airport. The airport is scheduled to open on September 30th,2019.
