How to get from Kuala Lumpur Airport to klcc-Four options

How to get from Kuala Lumpur Airport to klcc

Kuala Lumpur is one of the most dynamic cities in the world with deep rich culture, friendly people and amazing attraction sites. If you are planning to visit this great city, then you need to know how you are going to commute from the airport to the city center to your hotel. If you want to get to the city center from the airport, then there are three options available for you. They include metro, bus and taxi. In this article, we are going to discuss in details these three forms of transportation available to help you make an informed decision when choosing one.

  1. How to get from Kuala Lumpur Airport to klcc by Taxi

Kuala Lumpur taxi

Taxis is the best and most convenient way to travel from Kuala Lumpur international airport (KLIA) to the city center. They are very comfortable and take you to the exact location that you are heading to. That is not usually the case when you use other forms of transport such as a bus or train. The good thing about taxis in Kuala Lumpur is that their fair system is fixed. This means that ticket prices are not usually hiked based on demand as it is usually the case with other forms of transport. Kuala Lumpur taxis charge a fixed price RM 74.30 and the trip will take approximately 50 minutes to get to the city center if traffic is normal

Taxis in Kuala Lumpur are available 24/7. This means that regardless of the time of the day or night, you can be sure that you will get a taxi to take you to the city center. As said before, the whole journey will take around an hour under normal traffic. There are two types of taxis in Kuala Lumpur. They include the budget taxi (coded red and white) and the premium taxi (coded blue or yellow). They all have Teski sign that indicates that they are indeed taxis. In addition to that, all taxis that operate from Kuala Lumpur airport are licensed and metered. We advise you that you should not accept to use a taxi if the driver refuses to turn on the meter. When booking a taxi, you will have two options to choose from. You can purchase a coupon from the counter or use the metered system. However, the price can vary when you choose to purchase coupon from the counter depending on traffic, distance to be covered, weather and time of the day when you make your booking. In most cases, the metered fare is usually cheaper than the coupon system.

Taxi fare

Before you get into the taxi, you will be required to buy a taxi coupon at the transport desk counter located close to the arrival terminal. When you get to the transport desk, the staff in charge will ask you to state the location that you want the taxi to take you. You will then be given the exact price for the journey which you will then present to the driver. If to choose to use the coupon option, then you need to ensure that you have cash with you to complete payment once you arrive at your set destination. On the other hand, if you decided to use the metered system then the ticket price will vary depending on traffic. However, you should always ensure that the driver has turned the meter on. When you choose to purchase a coupon, the entire journey from the airport to the city center should not cost more than RM74.30.

Note that if you take a taxi between 12.00 midnight and 6.00 am then you may incur an additional 50% fare increase. This is standard practice in Malaysia for both metered and coupon fare system.

If you have a lot of luggage or you want comfort, then you should choose an executive taxi. They are larger and have more space to comfortably
accommodate two people plus your luggage. On the other hand, if you are on a tight budget or if you don’t have luggage, then you can choose the standard taxi. They are much cheaper but with less comfort.

Why you should choose a taxi

Currently, taxis are the most convenient form of transportation. They are also fairly fast especially when there is no much traffic. Taxis are current the best form of transportation because they will take you to your exact destination. This factor is important especially for those who have luggage. In addition to that, they operate 24/7 meaning that they can be accessed any time of the day or night.

Useful tips for taking taxi in KL

Don’t accept to use a taxi that does not have its meter on. Some drivers may lure you to use the taxi when the meter is off promising to charge you less. However, they usually end up charging more than what you would have paid if the meter was on. Only accept a set cost if you purchase the coupon at the official desk.

  1. How to get from Kuala Lumpur Airport to klcc by Metro

kl-metro

This is the fastest way to get to the city center from the airport. The metro has two trains, the KLIA express, and KLIA transit. The KLIA express is faster (takes 28 minutes) because it does not make any stops. On the other hand, the KLIA transit takes more time because it makes various short stops at various terminals including Putrajaya, Salak, Tinggi, Selatan, and Bandar Tasik. However, both trains usually drop passengers at the KL Sentral station. This means that you will have to board another train or look for another means of transport in order to get to the city center. If you choose to use the train, then you need to board the LRT Kelana Jaya line. The train will stop at KLCC and the journey will take approximately 15 minutes.

Metro fare

If you board the KLIA express or the transit, then it will cost you RM 35 per person (one way). You can purchase your ticket at the station ticket center. The fare for the second ride (from KL Sentral station to the city center) is obtained at the station by buying token via the vending machines. The trip will cost you RM 2.5

How do I get to the metro?

To get to the metro, you need to go to terminal C of the airport then follow the signage. Both KLIA trains are available at KLIA1 and KLIA2. Once you arrive at the KL Sentral station, board the LRT that leave the station after every three minutes and operates between 6.00am- 11.59PM. (The train usually extend to 1.00PM on special days)

Is metro convenient?

Metro is much faster and cheaper. However, it is not a convenient option especially for those who want to get to the city center. Both trains will take you to KL Sentral. This means that you will be required to look for additional means of transport to get to your destination. The process becomes even more difficult if you have heavy luggage. Metro is also crowded during peak hours.

Useful tips for taking metro

Avoid using the metro during peak hours. You also need to note that the operating hours of MRT may differ between stations. You are also advised to use the TNGo card. It is more convenient because it is rechargeable and is accepted in various forms of transport.

  1. How to get from Kuala Lumpur Airport to klcc by Bus

kl-airport-shuttle-bus

Both KLIA1 and KLIA2 have bus stations for passengers who want to use the bus. However, airport transfer buses only take the passenger to KL Sentral. This means that if you want to get to the city center, then you need to look for an additional mean of transport. The airport is fairly comfortable and cheaper than the train and taxi. However, the journey can be long especially during peak hours when traffic is high. It can take more than an hour to reach the city center. In addition to that, once you arrive at LK Sentral, you need to take a taxi or get to the train to get the city center. You can board LRT Kelana Jaya line from the KL Sentral. The train will stop at KLCC and the journey will take approximately 15 minutes.

Bus fare

If you choose to use the airport bus, then you will pay RM10 per person (one way). You can buy tickets from the transportation hub located on the ground floor of terminal C building. It will take you approximately 3 minutes to get the ticket station. Tickets are purchased from counter number 3.

If you wish to connect from KL Sentral to the city center with a train, then you can pay with cash by buying a token from vending machines available to the station at a cost of RM 2.50

Where can I get the bus?

You can board the bus from KLIA bus station on the ground floor of the main terminal building. It will only take you 3 minutes to get there from arrival exit. On the other hand, the LRT usually leave the KL Sentral station after every 3 minutes and operates between 6.00AM to 11.59PM.

Is taking a bus a good option?

Buses are fairly comfortable and cheap. However they don’t go direct to the city center, this means that you need to look for additional means of transport to get to your final destination. They are also time consuming and inconvenient for those with luggage.
